ok, nothing says the northwoods of wisconsin like eating fresh venison the week after gun hunting closes for deer season.
this weekend while we were up in spooner, wisconsin, i watched my man’s father butcher a few deer in the basement. we took home a giant bag full of meat, needless to say.
after letting the kids sleep in and go to school late today, i really didn’t feel like doing much [though i got a ton of laundry done, the dishes done, the bedroom cleaned, shopped for houses and redesigned two blogs…], i did decide to make a home cooked meal for my man when he got done with his eight hour day.
so here’s what i came up with…. meatballs! i made a standard spaghetti and meatballs with garlic toast… but it was the homemade meatballs that stole the show!
here’s the recipe!
1 lb vension with added bacon [ok, i realize this is a specialty, just venison is fine… or ground beef! the bacon just adds a kick!]
3/4 pkg onion soup mix
1 TBSP milk
bread crumbs to taste
preheat to 350
put wax paper or foil on baking sheet.
spray with cooking spray.
mix all ingredients in a mixing bowl.
add bread crumbs to taste.
enough that they will hold their shape.
roll into balls.
place onto baking sheet.
bake for 30-35 min until cooked through.
no need to turn.
